Patch a Pokémon ROM hack and check it worked
Apply a patch locally and inspect its checks. UPS and BPS record checksums; IPS does not. New to patching? Try the text-file practice below.
Add your base file
Use your own legally obtained, untouched game file.
Drop a file here or choose it from your device.
Add the creator's patch
Choose an IPS, UPS or BPS file you obtained from the project creator.
Drop the patch here or choose it from your device.
Apply and check
Keep your original base file unchanged. The new file is created here.
Enter the hack's name, not the patch filename or base game's name. Leave out the release version. When updating, use the exact name before the extension of your existing patched game. Keep its save backed up and follow the creator's save rules: matching names alone do not make a save compatible. Your browser may add a number if the filename already exists; check the saved name before moving it.
Choose your base file and enter a stable game name before applying the patch.
Learn with original text files
Try the same patching workflow without a game file. Each example loads a short text base and a patch made by Pocket Deal Radar. It replaces the selected inputs in this tool; files on your device stay unchanged.
- Load one example, then inspect its base and detected format above.
- For BPS, notice the expected source size and CRC32. For IPS, notice the missing embedded verification.
- The example supplies a stable game name. Press Apply patch. The output should read “Pocket Deal Radar practice complete.”
- Optionally download the result as a .txt file and open it in a text editor.
Choosing either of your own files clears both practice inputs. Then choose your matching base and creator patch. The examples demonstrate byte patching and verification messages; they do not identify your game, prove a real patch’s origin or establish emulator and save compatibility.
Does your creator package use another format?
This tool applies IPS, UPS and BPS. BSP and xdelta need their own documented routes. If no supported contents are detected, the patch selector offers a next-step hint based on the filename. That hint does not establish where a file came from or verify its format.
BSP is not supported here; confirm the required tool in the creator's instructions. For Renegade Platinum’s xdelta route, follow its installation guide.
Extract an archive before choosing its actual patch. Renaming a package or unsupported patch does not convert it. Use the creator-package checklist when you are unsure which file belongs in the selector.
