Polished Crystal move relearner, leaves and training tools
Find the right leaf, restore a move deliberately and unlock the Judge Machine. This guide connects the maker’s service locations to a practical preparation task.
Gold Leaves and Silver Leaves do different jobs
For relearning, take Gold Leaves to the Move Maniac in Cianwood City. Silver Leaves pay Move Tutors. The developer FAQ places hidden Gold Leaves in Yellow Forest and gives wild Bellsprout and Weepinbell a 55% held-item chance. Silver Leaves are hidden in Ilex Forest or held by wild Oddish and Gloom at the same documented rate.
| Your goal | Prepare | Confirm at the service |
|---|---|---|
| Restore a move to a current teammate | Gold Leaf and the intended Pokémon | The move appears among that Pokémon’s offered choices |
| Teach a tutor move | Silver Leaf and an eligible recipient | The tutor offers the move to this species |
| Locate a resource | The matching leaf and accessible source | You actually obtained that leaf, not merely its source Pokémon |
Check the bag before collecting more leaves. For a wild-holder search, the documented 55% chance can still produce encounters without a leaf. Read the service’s offered move and cost before spending it.
Example: you reach Cianwood carrying Silver Leaves but want the reminder service. The useful next action is to obtain the resource that service accepts. Searching for another copy of the teammate would not resolve the payment mismatch.
Restore a move without rebuilding the whole teammate
- Choose the exact Pokémon and the move you want back. Write down its current four moves.
- Bring the appropriate leaf to the documented reminder service.
- Read the choices the service actually offers in your installed edition.
- Choose the replacement slot deliberately; retain the utility or coverage move your current team still needs.
- After the interaction, open the summary and verify the resulting move list.
If the reminder lacks the move, look up this species’ teaching route before collecting more leaves. It may require a tutor, TM, level-up or breeding rather than this service.
Worked planning example: your intended teammate has two attacks that serve the same job, while your plan needs a recovery or utility option. Read the available teaching choices first, then decide which duplicate role you can give up. Keep the move that serves the role you still need in the next battle.
For a move required by an evolution, use the existing evolution guide. Restore the required move if the game offers it, then perform the stated evolution action. The leaf interaction alone is not the evolution trigger.
A different move name may be intentional
The FAQ explains consolidated names: Healing Light covers Morning Sun, Moonlight and Synthesis; Fresh Snack combines Softboiled and Milk Drink; Fury Strikes combines Fury Swipes and Fury Attack. Animation can depend on the user.
Compare the action’s description rather than judging it solely by a name remembered from another game. The feature reference documents move information including type, category, power and accuracy. Read that information before assigning the move a role.
| What you see | Next useful check |
|---|---|
| An unfamiliar name | Read its effect and the developer’s consolidated-name explanation |
| A move absent from the reminder list | Check its actual teaching method for this Pokémon |
| The familiar move deals unexpected damage | Inspect the category, current stats and target matchup |
| A guide names another edition’s attribute | Compare the installed edition before treating it as the same move |
Keep the regular and faithful editions in mind when consulting external recommendations. A broad “Crystal moveset” search can describe an entirely different game. If a menu result disagrees with a reference, record both the edition and the actual text shown instead of silently replacing it with vanilla behavior.
Unlock the Judge Machine before comparing IVs and EVs
The FAQ places the Judge Machine in Goldenrod’s PokéCom Center. Breed at least one Egg, then speak to the engineer working on the machine. It displays EVs as effort and IVs as potential.
- Check whether you have completed the stated breeding prerequisite.
- Visit the engineer and resolve the unlock interaction.
- Read the values for the teammate you actually intend to prepare.
- Compare that information with your selected stat rules before choosing a training task.
An unlocked display tells you what the game reports; it does not by itself say which preparation is worth your next session. If your immediate problem is a missing move, resolve the move first. If your planned role is unclear, decide the role before comparing many candidates.
The stat-options explanation separates EV choices from Perfect stats. Use it to interpret the selected rules, then compare the candidate’s relevant battle stats and moves.
Interpret effort and potential before training
Read the two kinds of information separately, then compare them with the rules selected for this run. The settings helper explains why enabling Perfect stats does not disable effort training. It also distinguishes an EV rule with a total limit from one with no EV effect.
| Observation | Question before acting | Useful next task |
|---|---|---|
| Potential differs between candidates | Is Perfect stats enabled? | Interpret the selected calculation rule before replacing a teammate |
| Effort differs between candidates | Which EV gain rule is active? | Decide whether effort preparation affects this run |
| Both displays look suitable | Does the current move list serve the intended role? | Inspect the teaching route instead of collecting more stat resources |
| A guide assumes different settings | Does its recommendation apply here? | Record the mismatch before adopting the plan |
Example: keep a useful teammate while investigating
You compare two members of the same species and notice different potential. Before discarding the favourite, read Perfect stats. Then review the move list and the party job you need filled. Keep the favourite while checking whether its moves and role address the turn that failed.
End the session with an observation you can reuse: selected rules, inspected member, current moves and the one change you chose. If you next teach a move, verify that result in the summary. If you next train, record the relevant effort display before and after. Use the recorded change to choose the next preparation task.
Choose an experience or effort task before looking for an item
The FAQ lists Macho Brace with Elm’s Aide in Cliff Gate, accessible from Cianwood, and Lucky Egg with Elm’s Aide in Blackthorn. Identify the item’s intended task before travelling.
For a short team-preparation session, make a record with five fields: Pokémon, current problem, intended change, required resource and observed result. A missing move calls for a teaching route; a training goal calls for a suitable available method. Gathering every named item before choosing a goal can turn a small adjustment into a long detour.
Read the installed item’s description and selected EV rule before planning training. Use the GBC session notebook to keep observations if helpful; it does not calculate a moveset.
Separate friendship services from stat training
The FAQ describes daily blessings in Ecruteak and photographs in Cianwood as happiness improvements similar to grooming. Enough of them also raises affection. These services answer a different preparation question from move teaching or inspecting effort and potential.
Choose the purpose of the visit
- Identify the teammate and goal before travelling: relationship preparation, a required move or a stat check.
- Read the service dialogue and record which interaction you actually completed.
- If you are preparing an evolution, confirm its rule with Elm rather than substituting a general friendship assumption.
- Keep your next evolution attempt separate from the service visit, then inspect its result.
Example: you are in Cianwood for a move reminder and also want to investigate the photo service. Write down both tasks. Completing the photo interaction does not restore the missing move; a restored move leaves the relationship task to check separately. Inspect the intended teammate at each service so the notes remain useful.
The affection-bonus option is a separate gameplay choice. For an evolution, ask Elm for the complete method and check its relationship condition after the service. The checked reference gives no numeric threshold or fixed visit count.
The Judge Machine’s effort and potential readout is not a substitute for relationship-service evidence. If your goal changes during the session, choose the new task deliberately: return to the evolution method, teaching choices or selected stat rules rather than treating every improvement as interchangeable training.
Restore a prerequisite move for an evolution
If the purpose of this service trip is an evolution, first confirm the installed rule with Elm. The evolution action table distinguishes move-based preparation from item and location methods.
Use the service to answer the narrow teaching question: is the required move available for this teammate, and which slot will it occupy? Inspect the result after teaching, then return to the stated evolution action. After the stated evolution action, inspect the resulting species as well as its moves.
Move and training questions
I have leaves, but the service still does not do what I expected
Check the leaf type, service and selected recipient separately. Then read the offered move list. Confirm that the service offers the wanted move to that recipient before paying.
Should I breed a replacement just to recover one move?
First investigate the existing Pokémon’s reminder or tutor choices. Creating a replacement is a separate task, worth choosing only when it solves the goal you actually have.
Does this guide replace the first-run settings guide?
No. It covers in-play preparation. Use the linked settings and evolution sections for those distinct decisions.
Prepare the parent’s move list before breeding
A reminder trip can prepare a donor as well as repair an active teammate. The checked maker source builds egg moves from the parents’ current moves, not from everything they could theoretically learn. The Growlithe / Espeon worked route shows why restoring Healing Light on the parent comes before collecting the intended egg.
- Identify the offspring and eligible inherited move.
- Read the intended donor’s actual slots.
- Use a service only if that move is missing and the donor is eligible for the offer.
- Inspect the completed move change before depositing the pair.
Example: you visit Cianwood to restore a move but accidentally select the campaign teammate rather than the planned donor. Both might learn it, yet only one supplies the intended breeding setup. Keep recipient, donor and offspring as separate names in the note, and verify the selected member before payment.
Unlock the Judge with one breeding task, then inspect the value you need
The bred-egg versus gift comparison separates the unlock task from the Odd Egg and Lyra interactions. If the engineer is the destination, aim for one valid breeding cycle; you can choose a stat-improvement project after the display becomes available.
When you return with a candidate hatchling, inspect the one property your next decision depends on. Nature or a desired move may already make it worth keeping for the campaign. Potential is a separate record, and Perfect stats changes how you interpret it without making the underlying inheritance or visible colour identical.
Example: an Everstone plan supplied the intended Nature but another stat differs from a parent. That does not show the Nature item failed. Check the inherited-value plan in the held-item table before deciding that more eggs are useful.
