How do you fast-forward Pokémon on Miyoo Mini Plus?
Onion provides both a toggle shortcut and a held-button route. Choose the control you want before judging whether your exact GBA game can run faster.
Toggle or hold?
| Method | Documented behavior | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| MENU + R | Toggle fast-forward | Verify it turns off before a precise input |
| Mapped button | Fast-forward while held on supported systems | Release and check normal-speed movement |
Test in a low-stakes menu or short walk first. If you toggle accidentally, check the normal-speed behavior before continuing a battle.
Assign a button for this game
- Launch the GBA game and press
MENU + SELECTfor the RetroArch quick menu. - Open Controls → Port 1 Controls, choose a button and assign Fast Forward.
- Under Manage Remap Files, choose Save Game Remap File if you want this game alone to use the mapping.
- Resume and test both held and released behavior.
Keep a note of the old mapping. Make sure movement, A/B, L/R, Start and Select still perform every action the game needs. A shortcut that replaces a needed input is a poor fit even if it makes a short test faster.
If the speed barely changes
First distinguish a missing shortcut from a working shortcut with little acceleration. Record the game build, selected core and a repeatable scene. Compare normal speed and fast-forward in that same scene, then check a battle and menu separately.
Do not convert one observation into a claim about all Pokémon hacks. A speed multiplier displayed in settings is not a measured result. Pocket Deal Radar has not measured this device or supplied an optimal speed setting.
If you consider a different GBA core, read Onion's GBA documentation and the game creator's requirements first. Back up the cartridge save and test Continue after a core change; do not rely on a state made by the previous core.
Speed changed after an Onion update?
Onion's FAQ describes old states as a possible reason for changed speed after an upgrade. Its sequence is to create an in-game save, then clear the relevant core's states under Saves/CurrentProfile/states/[CORENAME]/. Before following that cleanup, back up the entire profile and verify the cartridge save through Continue.
Move only the identified states out of active use while retaining a separate copy. If the state holds your only recent progress and you cannot save in-game, stop before cleanup. A clean launch is a useful comparison, not a guarantee that lost progress can be reconstructed.
If the game instead resumes into black screen, use the auto-resume recovery guide first. Keep your original game build and core during the comparison.
Keep speed changes separate from clock checks
Fast-forward responsiveness does not establish correct daily-event behavior. Use the Onion Pokémon clock checklist for that question. If progress looks wrong after a change, preserve your files and follow the save-not-loading guide.
For a game-specific starting point, the Heart & Soul setup guide records its own patch and save considerations. It is not a fast-forward benchmark.
Fast-forward and cheats are separate controls
If you only want shorter waits while training, first investigate the existing fast-forward shortcut and your game's own options. Enabling a cheat file is a separate change with its own game-build matching requirements.
Use the Onion cheat-file guide for that workflow. Keep a recognizable in-game save and test one behavior at a time so a changed team, item or event is not confused with a speed setting.
Choose a control around the task, not a speed number
A toggle can suit a long walk because you do not have to keep a button pressed. A held mapping can suit short waits because releasing it gives you a clear way to return to normal speed. Neither is automatically more comfortable: try the action you actually repeat in your game.
For a concrete comparison, stand in a familiar area with no important choice pending. Walk a short route at normal speed, repeat it with the toggle, turn the toggle off, then repeat with the held mapping. Check whether you overshoot doors or menu entries. Next test reading battle text without immediately selecting a move.
If a shoulder button already performs a game action, record that action before assigning fast-forward to it. A mapping that speeds up walking but removes access to a needed menu is not a successful setup. Save a game-specific remap only after movement, confirm, cancel and the game's shoulder-button actions still work.
mGBA or gpSP: what Onion actually documents
Onion's GBA page identifies mGBA as its default and describes gpSP as an alternative for demanding games or better fast-forward. It documents changing a selected game's core through GLO or installing gpSP through Package Manager's expert section. That guidance is not a benchmark for your exact Pokémon hack.
Before comparing, check the creator's emulator requirement and make a readable cartridge-save backup. Record the original core so you can return to it. Use the same game release and repeatable scene on both paths; a different game build is another variable. Verify Continue and ordinary controls before judging acceleration.
If the alternate core runs faster but fails a game mechanic or your saved progress, return to the working setup. Do not trade a reliable playthrough for a speed claim based only on a title screen.
Fast-forward symptom checklist
| Observation | Next check |
|---|---|
| No change when the shortcut is pressed | Confirm toggle versus held mapping and test in the same simple scene |
| Movement stays fast after release | Check whether the toggle remains active |
| Only one game loses an input | Compare its saved game remap with the original mapping |
| A different core loses Continue | Restore the working path and inspect cartridge-save handling before continuing |
| Behavior changed after an update | Use the backed-up clean-start comparison described above |
Keep a short result note: game release, Onion version, core, scene, control method and what changed. “The toggle works but acceleration is small in this battle” identifies a different problem from “the shortcut never activates.”
A game’s movement shortcut is a different speed change
Before adjusting fast-forward, describe what is faster: walking, cycling, surfing, battle animation or the entire emulated session. A game-specific movement action can change one activity without being the emulator’s fast-forward control.
| Documented action | Owner | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Radical Red: GBA B while cycling | Game’s bike boost | Cycling with emulator fast-forward off |
| Inclement Emerald: hold GBA B to surf faster | Game’s surfing action | Surfing while held and released |
| Onion fast-forward toggle or hold | Emulator control | The same scene with that control active and inactive |
Example: cycling is faster when you press B, while menus behave normally. First repeat the cycling action with emulator fast-forward off. That distinguishes the game’s bike action from your runtime shortcut; it is not a measured speed multiplier.
When borrowing a button for held fast-forward, check the game action it currently performs. Keep confirm, cancel and the relevant movement or shoulder action available. If the mapping removes a game action, choose another arrangement before saving the remap.
Game references checked 8 Oct 2026: Radical Red preparation guide and Inclement Emerald preparation guide. Their creator threads document these actions. No physical Miyoo speed or compatibility test is inferred.
Fast-forward questions
Does a configured multiplier prove that speed?
No. Compare the actual game scene. This guide supplies no measured multiplier for the Miyoo Mini Plus.
Should I change every GBA game's core?
Start with the affected game and the creator's requirements. A useful result for one game does not establish a better choice for the entire library.
Can fast-forward replace a proper save?
Use the game's Save command and confirm Continue. Acceleration is an input and playback workflow, not a backup method.
