Crystal Clear fast travel: Magnet Train, ferry and House Key
Choose the destination first, then the transport that answers that trip. The House Key returns home; it does not replace every route between towns.
Choose transport for the actual destination
| Option | Documented condition | Trip planning |
|---|---|---|
| Magnet Train | Free and available immediately | Use its region connection, then plan the local leg |
| Fast Ferry | Free pass: two badges, talk to a ferry sailor | Documented stops: Olivine, Cianwood, Cerulean, New Cinnabar and Fuchsia |
| House Key | Outside, with Fly/Teleport/Dig in the party, or consume an Escape Rope | Returns to the current residence |
These options solve different parts of the trip. Start with the town or service you want, check the connection, then identify the remaining walk. A transport unlock is not a claim that the final cave or encounter is accessible or suitable for your team.
The Fast Ship is a separate option: the reference says its ticket can be purchased at any time. Do not treat a ship ticket and the ferry pass as the same prerequisite. Inspect the sailor’s current offer before buying or assuming a free crossing.
Why the House Key does not activate
The House Key is provided at the start. The documented return requires being outside, not inside a cave or building, and a party member knowing Fly, Teleport or Dig; an Escape Rope can be consumed instead.
- Check the current place: if you are indoors or underground, first find the normal exit. Do not infer that a travel item ignores its stated location condition.
- Inspect the active party: check the actual move list rather than a Pokémon’s usual learnset or a move on a boxed teammate.
- Check the alternative resource: if using the rope route, read the prompt and consider that it consumes an item.
- Confirm the intended return: your current residence is the target. If you want another town, choose a different route.
The reference allows changing residence to another town. Before planning a return around it, establish where this adventure currently lives. “Home” may no longer mean the town you remember choosing at the start.
Plan an outward trip and a return
- Write down one destination and task: a tutor visit, a particular encounter or the next Gym.
- Identify the transport connection and its current prerequisite. Keep the final local route separate.
- Review the return: the reverse connection, a normal route or the House Key’s residence target.
- Bring only the party actions or consumables that this planned trip needs.
- After arriving, finish the chosen task and choose the return deliberately.
This is a proposed planning method, not a fastest-route calculation. For encounter locations, use the Dex and focused hunting guide. For badges and field obstacles, use the open-world progression guide.
Example: a tutor detour without a new team member
You want one teaching service in another town. First confirm the service location, then check whether a train or ferry connection covers part of the journey. Do not add a permanent transport teammate merely because original Crystal used a different travel sequence.
Before leaving, decide how to return. If your House Key target is a different residence from the place you want next, the reverse connection may fit the plan better. If the service is not yet available, record that prerequisite and stop the detour there rather than extending the journey with unrelated errands.
The tutor and Modification Station guide owns service eligibility and payment. This page owns the travel decision.
A service detour while retaining a hunting target
A transport trip and a knockout are different actions for ordinary chaining. Before leaving a hunting area, read CHECK and decide whether your next activity is still the same hunt or a separate battle task. The chain action checker makes that distinction explicit.
- Note the tracked target and current count in the game.
- Choose the service destination and return route.
- If the detour includes battles against other wild species, decide whether to pause chaining before those battles.
- After returning, read CHECK again before resuming knockouts.
Example: you travel to a move service and expect to train a reserve on the way. The travel itself and the planned training fights have separate consequences for the old hunting target. Choose the chaining state deliberately before combining the two errands.
A preserved chain does not supply the House Key’s party-move condition. Inspect the moves you currently carry and the current residence independently. A trip can satisfy one rule while leaving the other question unresolved.
Match the travel symptom
- No free ferry offer: check badge count and the sailor’s pass interaction; do not assume you are using the same service as the ship.
- House Key does not return you: check outside status, the active party’s moves and the rope alternative.
- Returned to an unexpected town: establish the current residence before repeating the action.
- Transport works but the goal remains blocked: inspect that goal’s own prerequisite. Reaching a town and completing its task are separate results.
Travel questions
Must I unlock the train through original Crystal’s story?
The checked Crystal Clear reference describes its Magnet Train as free and immediately available. Use this game’s rule and installed instructions.
Is the House Key usable inside a cave?
The documented return requires being outside. Check the normal exit and your current context first.
Does knowing Dig identify every travel option?
It can satisfy the stated party-move condition for the House Key. It does not establish a route to every destination or the behavior of another field obstacle.
