Heart & Soul progression blockers: Johto and Kanto

Resolve the Mahogany RageCandyBar blocker, Kanto Power Plant sequence and Mt Silver access using the official player FAQ.

Story spoilers: this guide names required events in Johto and Kanto. Jump to your current blocker to limit what you read.

Blocked in Mahogany after Pryce?

The maker’s FAQ requires seven badges, including Chuck and Jasmine. After Pryce, Elm’s call points you to the Rockets at Goldenrod Radio Tower. Deal with that story sequence to progress past the RageCandyBar blocker.

  1. Open your badge record and count the badges rather than assuming Pryce means the prerequisite is complete.
  2. Check whether Chuck and Jasmine are both defeated.
  3. Review Elm’s call and return to Goldenrod for the Radio Tower story.
  4. After completing the required story sequence, revisit the blocked route.

A persistent NPC is a reason to check story progress before changing emulator settings. If your badge count is short, repeatedly speaking to the blocker will not identify which earlier objective you missed. Use the badge record to choose the next task.

If you believe every prerequisite is complete, record the exact NPC dialogue and your version. Those details are more useful for support than a screenshot of the location alone.

Kanto Power Plant: follow the Machine Part trail

The official sequence starts with the chief engineer. As you leave, a guard asks for help. Visit Misty’s Gym for the Rocket grunt, find and defeat him again on Nugget Bridge, then return to the Gym. The camera highlights a sparkle: interact there to collect the Machine Part and return it to the Power Plant.

Match your next task to the last event you saw

  • No request for help yet: revisit the Power Plant conversation and exit sequence.
  • Request received, but no grunt encounter: check Misty’s Gym.
  • Grunt encountered at the Gym: follow the trail to Nugget Bridge.
  • Bridge battle completed: inspect the highlighted spot back in the Gym.
  • Machine Part collected: return to the Power Plant.

This is an event chain, not a search for a random item on every Kanto map. Retracing it in order lets you identify the last confirmed step. If you arrive somewhere with no visible event, go back one step and verify the conversation or battle that should lead there.

Keep this repair sequence separate from other Kanto objectives. Completing a nearby battle or visiting another city is not evidence that the Machine Part has already been recovered.

Kinglers south of Fuchsia: follow the Kanto route

The v2.0.6 FAQ ties this blocker to Kanto progress: begin with Lt. Surge’s badge, repair the Power Plant, get the Expansion Card from Lavender’s Radio Tower, wake Snorlax east of Vermilion, pass through Diglett’s Tunnel and travel via Pewter and Pallet to Cinnabar. Complete the Cinnabar and Seafoam storyline before revisiting the Kinglers.

Example: you collected the Machine Part and immediately returned to Fuchsia. The repair and the later travel sequence are still separate checkpoints. Use the last event you actually completed to choose the next stop, rather than repeatedly testing the same blocker.

This is a route summary, not every conversation or puzzle solution. If your installed version disagrees, record the remaining dialogue and consult the current FAQ before using an older walkthrough.

Lugia and Ho-Oh: check more than the Wing

The maker lists the matching Silver or Rainbow Wing, eight Johto badges, Elm’s Master Ball and the subsequent Kimono Girls victory as prerequisites. Owning the Wing alone does not establish that the encounter is ready.

Review the four requirements as a set before travelling to the encounter. If one is uncertain, make that the next objective. Keep a capture attempt separate from an access check: a door or event that has not opened calls for progression evidence, not a different Poké Ball.

For the later catching decision, use the special-ball guide. It explains documented affinities without promising a numerical bonus for a legendary encounter.

Mt Silver requires the full badge set and Oak

The maker’s requirement is to talk to Oak after obtaining all sixteen badges.

Check both halves of that instruction. “I finished Johto” does not establish a complete Johto-and-Kanto badge set, and earning the final badge does not establish that the Oak conversation has happened.

  1. Review the complete badge record.
  2. If any badge is missing, resolve that Gym objective first.
  3. Once all sixteen are present, talk to Oak.
  4. Then retry access and note any remaining dialogue.

This page does not guess additional flags or alternate shortcuts. If the documented requirement appears satisfied but access still fails, preserve your save and gather the version and dialogue for a focused report.

Ruins of Alph and Celebi events: check the lead party slot

The maker FAQ changes the Ruins of Alph chamber entry: lead with the Pokémon associated with that puzzle. For a fossil puzzle, solve the room and collect the fossil when it appears. The same FAQ uses Celebi in the first slot for the Tohjo Falls radio-room Giovanni battle and the Giovanni/Silver scene on Route 22.

Where you areWhat the reference asks forWhat to verify
Ruins of Alph chamberThe respective puzzle Pokémon in frontThe actual first slot, not simply a Pokémon somewhere in the party
Tohjo Falls radio roomCelebi first, then enter the roomParty order and the named room
Route 22 sceneCelebi first, then explore the routeParty order and the named route
  1. Read the exact event you intend to trigger.
  2. Compare its required Pokémon with the party you currently carry.
  3. Inspect the first slot immediately before trying the named interaction.
  4. Perform that interaction and record the resulting dialogue or scene.

Example: Celebi is in slot four while the radio-room event remains inactive. Test the documented lead-slot condition before looking for another key item. If the event still does not occur, record the room, party order, installed build and dialogue; the FAQ summary does not establish every underlying flag.

For an Alph chamber, this page does not guess the required species for every puzzle. Identify the respective puzzle’s Pokémon from the current game reference first. A fossil reward appearing after the puzzle is a different checkpoint from obtaining permission to enter. Keep both in your route note so one successful step does not hide the unfinished one.

Distinguish a story prerequisite from a technical issue

A stable game that repeatedly shows the same blocking dialogue calls for a progression check first. A crash, frozen screen or unresponsive controls calls for a different investigation. Do not treat those symptoms as interchangeable.

Before troubleshooting, make a copy of your normal in-game save. Record the last event you completed, where the blocker appears and the exact message. Include your game version and any active randomizer or challenge settings. If you changed versions, say which version created the save and which version now loads it.

For a story question, a compact report can read: “Version [your version], [badge count], last completed event [event], blocker says [dialogue].” Fill those fields with observations from your run. Do not edit save flags or overwrite your only save merely to test whether a guide is right.

For a technical problem, include the emulator or handheld setup as well. The game profile keeps release and installation sources together; the settings guide explains the separate challenge configuration.

Prepare a deliberate capture checkpoint

When a story interaction can lead to the encounter you want, read its actual prompt and prepare before triggering it. Keep the capture goal separate from merely clearing the obstruction. This section is a planning method, not an additional event unlock or a complete static-encounter list.

  1. Confirm the interaction and access conditions in your installed game.
  2. Inspect the party, available moves and ball stock you intend to use.
  3. Save inside the game at an appropriate checkpoint before starting the interaction.
  4. Read the prompt at normal speed and keep the encounter’s actual information in view.
  5. After catching, inspect the recipient’s summary and record whether the result fits your goal.
  6. Save deliberately when you choose to keep that progress.

Example: you want the encountered Pokémon as a teammate, while a route guide mainly describes moving past the obstacle. A stock and party check before the interaction helps preserve the capture goal. The route being passable afterwards does not itself establish that the Pokémon joined your collection.

Use the type-and-method ball shortlist once you have checked the target facts. It supplies no catch guarantee and does not decide whether resetting a story interaction is supported.

On a handheld, verify the ordinary checkpoint separately from quick resume using the GBA save check. A restored scene is not proof that Continue has the same trainer and location. Keep game progression, capture outcome and file preservation as distinct observations.

Encounter access and shiny retry conditions are separate

First resolve why an interaction is unavailable; then choose whether and how to retry its result. A repeatable encounter instruction does not waive story, time or key-item requirements.

The creator's static reference lists Sudowoodo on Route 36 with Squirt Bottle, and Lapras in Union Cave B2F at night. These are different access questions: one names a key item, the other a floor and time window. Use the corresponding entry instead of importing a generic HGSS schedule.

  1. Identify the exact target and location in the current reference.
  2. Check the required item, named area and displayed game time.
  3. Resolve the prerequisite before trying a reset shortcut.
  4. Once the interaction works, select the target's documented retry method.

Example: you reached Union Cave but cannot find the listed Lapras. Check B2F and the night window before troubleshooting RNG or repeated reset inputs. If you can start the encounter, access is now a different result from obtaining the shiny or capture you want.

Continue with static reset exceptions and the clock-change consequences. Creator static reference, checked 8 Oct 2026; no additional story flags or completed capture are inferred.
