RG35XX SP lid close settings: does closing save your Pokémon game?

GBA Pokémon on a clamshell handheld

The SP offers a hinged shape; the RG35XX Plus offers a vertical shape. Both have separate KNULLI device pages. Choose around carrying space and controls, then check your actual game. This page documents a GBA path, not DS touch controls or tested hack performance.

Prepare the card and patched game

  1. Back up your card. Use the RG35XX SP image and follow KNULLI's installation guide. Let first boot finish before adding games.
  2. Open your hack's profile, match its required base file and apply the creator's patch. Copy the resulting .gba file into the GBA directory in your chosen KNULLI game storage.
  3. Check the selected emulator in Advanced Game Options against the creator's requirements. Use KNULLI's settings for persistent changes; the installed build determines available choices.
  4. Map the D-pad, A/B, L/R, Start and Select. Make an in-game save, exit normally and reopen through Continue.

Does closing the lid save Pokémon progress?

Do not treat closing the shell as an in-game save. KNULLI's Power Management documentation lists Lid Close Mode under Device Settings: display off, suspend or shutdown. Display off can wake on a button press; suspend prevents the later idle modes from running.

The developers document automatic saving on graceful shutdown for supported emulators, including RetroArch cores with auto-save enabled. That depends on your settings and emulator. Save in-game first, then test closing and reopening with disposable progress. For longer breaks, check shutdown rather than assuming indefinite suspend is safe.

Back up the cartridge save

When using the mGBA core, Libretro documents .srm cartridge saves. Find the file actually created by your frontend and back it up before changing firmware, core or hack version. Save states are separate and should not be your only copy of progress.

Choose a GBA Pokémon hack

  • Pokémon Unbound — Pokémon FireRed (English v1.0); UPS patch; verify the included README and base-game match patch. Check creator requirements first.
  • Pokémon Heart & Soul — Pokémon Emerald Version (U); UPS patch; check the current developer release for the exact asset name patch. Check creator requirements first.
  • Pokémon Inclement Emerald — ; patch. Check creator requirements first.

These are game-profile starting points, not a tested SP compatibility list. Fast-forward, clock events, trading and battery runtime remain untested here.

What to check before buying

Match the SP model

Choose the RG35XX SP installation image. Similar names do not make the Plus or RG34XXSP image interchangeable. Read the official explanation

Choose the shape for how you play

Compare the hinged design with the vertical RG35XX Plus. Hinge durability, button feel and comfort have not been tested by Pocket Deal Radar.

Check lid settings before a long adventure

Closing the lid can turn off the display, suspend or shut down under KNULLI. Test your own setting with expendable progress before relying on it. Read the official explanation

Check the seller's configuration

Confirm condition, included cards and return terms. No live price or stock is tracked; supplied game bundles do not verify a Pokémon hack.

Hands-on findings

No original tests have been recorded. We do not give an FPS estimate, battery-life verdict, review score or blanket game-compatibility recommendation from specifications alone.

ROM hacks and standalone games

Compare Retroid Pocket 5 and Miyoo Mini Plus for Pokémon

Compare Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion and Steam Deck for GBA ROM hacks.

First identify the installation format. A ROM hack needs its matching base game and a suitable way to run the patched file. A standalone fangame has separate runtime and operating-system requirements. The device specifications above do not verify either game on this unit.

Read standalone games versus ROM patches, check the catalog's platform requirements or use the game Finder. The ROM checker and ROM patcher process your own files locally; they do not certify handheld performance.
